As the number and diversity of undergraduate psychology programs increase globally, there is growing recognition of the need for a shared yet adaptable framework of
foundational psychology competences. While an international competence model exists for professional psychology, previously there has been no such global model for
foundational competences at the undergraduate level, despite the critical role undergraduate programs play in preparing students for diverse pathways including
further education, employment, and societal impact. This symposium introduces the International Competences for Undergraduate Psychology (ICUP), developed through
the International Collaboration on Undergraduate Psychology Outcomes (ICUPO) project, comprising 120 psychology educators from 47 countries. The ICUPO project
comprises a core committee and an International Reference Group for Undergraduate Psychology Outcomes (IRGUPO). The symposium will include five presentations. The
first outlines the aims, rationale, and background of the ICUPO project. The second presentation details the relevance of psychological literacy, global citizenship, inclusive
leadership and especially cultural responsiveness to the project processes and outcomes. The third presentation outlines the inclusive and iterative processes and methods used to develop the ICUP Model. The fourth presentation details the ICUP Model, which includes 24 competences organized into seven categories: two core categories
(Psychological Knowledge and Research Methods), and five Psychology-relevant categories (Values & Ethics; Cultural Responsiveness & Diversity; Critical Thinking &
Problem Solving; Communication & Interpersonal Interaction; and Personal & Professional Development). The fifth presentation outlines the processes and outcomes
of engagement, dissemination and educational resource sharing strategies, whereby the aims include increased global input to and adoption of the ICUP Model, leading to
discernable impact on the quality of foundational psychology education and outcomes. "ICAP Relevance Statement: The ICUP competences constitute a unique international
Model designed to guide foundational undergraduate psychology curricula globally, while remaining adaptable across diverse national and institutional environments. The
competences include emphasis on application of psychological knowledge, skills and values/attitudes to personal, work and community/societal contexts."
