Abstract text:
We provide an overview of the processes and methods of the International
Collaboration on Undergraduate Psychology Outcomes (ICUPO) project. Planning was
initiated in approximately August 2022, with a core principle being stakeholder
diversity. The ICUPO Committee and the larger advisory group, the Reference Group
for Undergraduate Psychology Outcomes (IRGUPO), consist of 120 psychology
educators from 47 countries, granting representation from all continents. The ICUPO
project was launched in October 2022 with the first ICUPO Committee virtual meeting.
ICUPO meetings are approximately monthly, and there are several additional monthly
meetings of working groups (WGs), for example, the Process WG, Terminology WG,
Outcomes WG, and Integration WG. The inclusive methods for developing the Model
are briefly described, including: monthly online committee meetings with pre-tasks,
procedures to give voice to all participants; rapid post-meeting communication; regular
consideration of the literature and of national and regional developments; working
groups with expanded leadership and inclusive membership; frequent consultations with
the advisory group (IRGUPO) and with psychology organisations. Over 40 educational
frameworks, including 27 national psychology frameworks were analysed. Committee
members engaged in bottom-up processes, for example, deriving themes from 27
national undergraduate psychology sets of outcomes. Members also engaged in top
down processes that gleaned commonalities from several existing international
education and qualifications frameworks (e.g., OECD's Future of Education and Skills
2030). We purposefully engaged in 'forward-thinking', for example, considering what is
'missing' in terms of the current and future needs of all stakeholders: students,
educators, graduates, employers, society. We describe the contributions of the IRGUPO
members, who continue to provide crucial input. We then outline the iterative feedback
seeking and consensus-seeking among the ICUPO Committee, IRGUPO, and colleagues
at conferences and from international and national psychology organizations and
education leaders, regarding the developing draft ICUP Model versions. The planned
processes for progressing the project are then outlined.
