Abstract text:
The aims of the International Collaboration on Undergraduate Psychology Outcomes
(ICUPO) project are to: (1) produce the International Competences for Undergraduate
Psychology (ICUP) Model to guide curriculum development and renewal; (2) encourage
and support adaptation of the Model to different local, national, and regional contexts;
and (3) seek support for the Model by international and national psychology
organizations and education leaders. The reasons for developing the Model include: (a)
the growing numbers of psychology programs worldwide; (b) international professional,
but not foundational, psychology competences exist; and (c) the high potential for
graduates (regardless of career destination) with these competences to contribute to
meeting challenges in personal, work, and community/societal contexts. The presenters
then provide an overview of several competence models that guided the work of the
ICUPO, including international education qualifications frameworks and other relevant
frameworks (e.g., OECD's Future of Education and Skills 2030). The presenters outline
how these and other resources led both to the germination of this project and to the
ongoing processes of the development of foundational competences.
