Division: Division 1: Work and Organizational Psychology
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outline a shared vision for a healthier, fairer, and more sustainable world, and Work and Organizational Psychology (WOP) offers critical contributions to this agenda, particularly in advancing SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). This symposium will bring together scholars and representatives from some of the leading WOP associations, including Division 1 of the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP), the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (EAWOP), and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), to explore how partnerships across the field can be leveraged to contribute to the 2030 agenda and beyond.
The session will begin with the session's chair, Dr. Jenna McChesney, providing a brief overview of how WOP can contribute to he SDGs, the different professional organizations represented in the session, and an introduction to our speakers. Presenters include: Dr. Ishbel McWha-Hermann (EAWOP) on informing policy around decent work; Dr. Zonke Zungu (SIOP-UN) and Dr. Mahima Saxena (SIOP-UN) on lessons from research-based policy mandates; Dr. Vicente Martínez-Tur (IAAP Division 1 President) on how IAAP advances the SDGs and how IAAP and SIOP support each other through joint efforts, including showcasing IAAP initiatives such as 'This Works in My Place' at SIOP conferences; and Dr. Morrie Mullins (SIOP-UN) on embedding global lessons into WOP education and training.
As we approach 2030, the milestone year for the SDGs and the next ICAP, the session will conclude with a forward-looking discussion of how IAAP, EAWOP, SIOP, and other WOP associations can continue to partner, adapt, and expand psychology's role in contributing to the UN SDGs and shaping global priorities beyond 2030.
