In an organizational context that increasingly reflects the tension between individual identities, organizational pressures, and socio-economic instability, this symposium aims to investigate how these multiple forces contribute to shaping workers' well-being, values, and professional experience across diverse cultural and organizational contexts. Specific attention will be given to the role of sustainability, both social and organizational, as a guiding framework for promoting equitable, inclusive, and health-oriented workplaces. This symposium brings together 4 international contributes from Italy, Serbia and Spain.
The first contribution investigates the Serbian teaching profession, illustrating how shifting socio-political crises and job insecurity erode professional dignity and intensify burnout risk.
The second paper, based on data from Italian real estate companies, analyzes how workload and digital connectivity affect work-family conflict and organizational sustainability through the Job Demand-Control-Support Model.
The third contribution focuses on migrant workers in Italy, addressing how intergenerational transmissions of work values interact with power relations and perceived justice in multicultural organizations.
Finally, the fourth study explores workplace experiences of transgender and LGB+ employees in Spain, highlighting how the interaction of gender identity and sexual orientation shapes visibility, discrimination, and well-being at work.
Together, these contributions lighten the systemic fragilities and strengths that emerge where cultural, intergenerational, and organizational forces intersect. The symposium proposes an integrative framework linking micro-level identity processes with macro-level and socio-economic pressures in an era of global instability and challenges. Additionally, this symposium aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 3, 5, 8, and 10), advocating for inclusive and sustainable workplaces that promote dignity, belonging, and equity.
