The expansion of telework has profoundly reshaped occupational life, offering new opportunities but also intensifying the risks associated with technostress. This symposium examines how digital work environments influence psychological well-being, with a focus on both the risk and protective factors that contribute to workers' mental health. Contributions will explore the impact of digital overload, constant connectivity, and blurred work-life boundaries, while also highlighting the protective effects of autonomy, organizational support, and digital competence. The symposium will offer valuable insights into the development of technostress and potential strategies for its mitigation. Collectively, the presentations will outline innovative directions for psychological interventions, organizational strategies, and policies aimed at fostering healthier, more resilient digital workplaces.
Chiara La Barbiera and colleagues present a systematic review identifying psychosocial risk and protective factors in digital work. Anabela Rodrigues and colleagues offer a motivational perspective on how telework motives shape well-being and performance. Federica Arena and colleagues provide evidence on cognitive and affective vulnerabilities linked to technology addiction. Natalia Grinko and colleagues present an interdisciplinary model to strengthen mental health competencies in a conflict-affected digital context. Claudio Maggio and colleagues examine technostress as a mediating mechanism within the JD-R framework. Finally, Rubinia Celeste Bonfanti and Stefano Ruggieri analyse workplace phubbing and its consequences for burnout and team cohesion.
