The IAEVG called in 2023 practitioners and researchers in the fields of educational and career guidance to integrate environmental and ecological issues into their research and interventions. During the last decade, the number of scientific contributions developing models and constructs about how these issues have significantly increased (Di Fabio & Bucci, 2016; Carosin et al., 2021; Plant, 2014). Several recent studies have been published about how young people are considering ecological issues in their vocational choices or adults are considering them when transforming their professional practices (Garin et al., in press; Tacchini et al., 2024). We also observe different initiatives that promote the use of innovative tools to support people in their career transitions towards more sustainable career paths (e.g. Carosin & Canzittu, 2021). Finally, the uncertainty associated with the Anthropocene can generate negative affect, as eco-anxiety, especially among the younger generation (Mark et al., 2021), that need to be considered and addressed. This symposium, we will start with an overall view of the importance to consider ecological sustainability in educational and vocational guidance. Four presentations described below will explore several ways how our field has tried to address sustainability in educational and guidance settings and how this has an impact on our theoretical frameworks and interventions.
