This symposium brings together international perspectives on safeguarding in sport, framed through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16). Contributions from the Philippines, Malaysia, Austria, Spain, and Canada showcase diverse approaches to promoting child protection, athlete well-being, and inclusive sport environments. Topics range from policy implementation and psychological interventions to community engagement and education strategies.
This symposium is both timely and relevant, addressing the urgent need to promote a safe, healthy, enjoyable and inclusive sport environments. Few initiatives explicitly connect safeguarding in sport to the SDGs. By showcasing experiences from five countries across three continents, this symposium fills that gap by demonstrating how psychology can advance sustainable development, equity, and child protection. By presenting experiences from five countries across three continents, the session fosters cross-cultural dialogue while illuminating both universal challenges and culturally grounded innovations.
