Abstract text:
The goal of the current study is to elicit input from psychology students and educators with regard to whether each of the competence categories and statements of the International Competences for Undergraduate Psychology (ICUP) Model are important to their (or to their students') future educational and career goals, as well as whether they believe their undergraduate psychology program - in which they are a student or faculty member - is currently addressing the categories and statements. From April 2025, an online English-language version of surveys for students and educators is being distributed by ICUPO Committee and advisory group (IRGUPO) members. We will report on the findings, including any national differences and differences between students and educators. In Brazil, we are not only contributing to recruiting for the original English-Language version of the survey, but we also providing the translation and cultural adaptation of the ICUP Model into Brazilian-Portuguese. Brazil has more than 550 thousand registered/licensed psychologists, more than 700 undergraduate psychology courses, 70% from the private sector. This study will allow Brazilian stakeholders to assess the ICUP Model and provide valuable feedback that will contribute to the cultural responsiveness that drives the ongoing development and implementation of the Model. We will conduct the study through eight steps, using professional translators and experts in psychology education in Brazil. Moreover, ten educators and 30 students intensely involved with undergraduate psychology programs will interact with the ICUP Model and have the opportunity to present their perceptions, understanding, and suggestions for the Model. Finally, the future of this research project will be outlined.
