The interest of this symposium arises from the possibility of addressing the topic of gender
violence in its various facets. The targets of the investigations presented are adolescents (De
Piccoli et al.; Del Buono), minor victims of sexual violence (Gallardo et al.,), professionals
(Gallardo), couples (Pecini et al.); various areas are investigated, such as: the different sources
and communication styles that have a role in legitimizing stereotypes, attitudes and harassing
and violent behaviours, in particular the role of the mass media in consolidating these stereotypes
(Del Buono's contribution) and the communication styles with which social violence is narrated
and presented (see Crapolicchio et al.); finally, other contributions investigate psychosocial
processes that underlie the legitimation of sexual violence: see the contribution by De Piccoli et
al., which considers the role of sexism, rape myths belief and the perception of control in intimate
relationships, and the contribution by Pecini et al., which focuses on intimate relationships by
investigating the relationship between sexual objectification and violence in couple relationships.
An important aspect to point out is that the contributions presented here have an applicative aim,
either because they provide indications of interventions to be implemented or because, based on
implemented interventions, they present the results, showing "evidence-based best practices".
The Symposium therefore constitutes an opportunity for an international exchange on practices
and possible interventions that can be implemented on the topic of combating stereotypes and
gender violence according to an ecological point of view.
