Teacher well-being and resilience are critical factors influencing the effectiveness of education and students´ holistic development. Educators face increasing stress due to evolving pedagogical demands, classroom management challenges, and emotional burdens.
Despite the recognized importance of Life Skills in addressing these challenges, professional development programmes often overlook their role in enhancing teacher well-being and sense of self-efficacy. Addressing these gaps is essential to nurture a resilient and emotionally competent teaching workforce.
This project aims to implement and evaluate a teacher training programme on Life Skills. The programme is anticipated to improve teachers' well-being and provide strategies to incorporate Life Skills into teaching practices. This approach could positively influence teaching methods, curriculum and a school environment that promotes students´ highest potential in intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
The study will adopt a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative research methods. A cohort of teachers will participate in a training programme featuring workshops and peer discussions. The study will employ pre and post training surveys, interviews, and focus groups, enabling a comprehensive understanding of the programme's impact.
Preliminary expectations suggest that teachers will report increased well-being and enhanced emotional competence post-training. Improvements in classroom interactions and student engagement are also anticipated, highlighting the transferability of Life Skills to students, thereby fostering their holistic development.
This study underscores the necessity of embedding Life Skills training within teacher education frameworks. While the findings will offer valuable insights for educational policymakers, potential limitations include variability in individual teacher receptiveness and contextual factors influencing programme effectiveness. Future research should explore long-term impacts and scalability across diverse educational settings. Extending the program duration is recommended to better understand its long-term benefits and sustainability.
