Abstract text:
Research indicates that organizational climate and relational dynamics between different generations may differ because people express their frustrations and negative emotions through varied cathartic mechanisms. This blowing off of the steam through catharsis is also known as venting. Considering the recent events in Nepal where Gen-Z burnt down the entire country because of reasons such as ban on social media usage and others, it is imperative to understand the cultural and country-wise differences of venting patterns of Gen-Z individuals. We explore the venting ties among students in a residential institution from North India to understand the ways in which the Gen-Z students engage in venting behaviors. The available data shows that Gen-Z frequently use informal digital and face-to-face communication for venting which strengthens their relationships but sometimes creates persistent negative thinking. Using a grounded theory approach, we will collect data to establish the themes which we will categorize once we reach the stage of saturation. We will use MAXQDA for generating the themes and classifying the themes to predict the patters. We later plan to use predictive analytics to check what patterns these Gen-Z students would be using when they enter workforce. Following the ideas from the recent paper on workplace venting (Zhu, He, Solanelles & Cullen‐Lester, 2025), we will categorize the venting patterns which will be helpful for the human resource professionals while selecting, testing and recruiting Gen-Z as employees.
