Abstract text:
While wearing masks and other measures were previously recommended to prevent infection with COVID-19, people are now able to live their daily lives without taking any special infection control measures in many situations. This study investigated how people felt about conversations with others and what they thought about them after the COVID-19 pandemic, and examined the impact of the pandemic on conversation. Participants were 104 college students. On the online survey they were asked about the level of everyday conversation they engaged in, as well as their thoughts, feelings, and realizations about conversations with others after the pandemic. The survey was conducted from mid-April to early May 2024. The results showed that, overall, they were having more everyday conversations, and it was easier to converse. In addition to the difficulty of conversation due to infection control measures, participants also mentioned the enjoyment and pleasure of face-to-face conversations due to the easing of infection control measures. These results suggest that the difficulty of conversation during the COVID-19 pandemic has made people feel even more strongly the importance of conversations and face-to-face interactions, which they once took for granted.
