Abstract text:
Social well-being is understood as "The assessment we make of our circumstances and functioning within society" (Keyes, 1998, p. 122). The present study sought to evaluate the internal consistency and construct validity of the social well-being scale in colombian socio cultural context, according to the variables of sex and age in a sample of 241 young people living in Colombia, 44% women and 56% men. their age ranged from 18 to 40 years (M = 23.48; SD = 5.39). The participants completed Keyes' (1998) social well-being test, adapted to Spanish in Spain by Blanco and Diaz (2005), which is composed of five subscales (integration, acceptance, contribution, actualization, and social coherence), whose items range in a 5 point likert scale from strongly disagree (1) to strongly agree (5). The results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) confirmed the original 5-factor structure. The reliability of the subscales measured using Cronbach's Alpha ranged from 0.67 to 0.81, which is considered adequate internal consistency. The results confirm previous findings and are discussed in light of the limited literature available, considering its implications for the assessment of well-being of young adults in the Colombian context.
