Abstract text:
Background: Organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB), also known as extra-role behaviour, plays an important role in increasing the effectiveness of organisations. The Organisational Citizenship Behaviour Scale (OCBS) developed by Podsakoff, MacKenzie, Moorman and Fetter (1990) have demonstrated high reliability and validity in Western contexts. However, the applicability and relevance of the scale in a Central African culture have only been explored to a limited extent. Purpose: This study's purpose was to validate the OCBS in a sample of permanent employees (N = 839) working in the transport sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Methods: Psychometric analyses, including a confirmatory factor analysis, were conducted to examine the structure of the scale. Results: Results support the five-dimensional model of OCB. In addition, the sub-dimensions of the OCBS showed high internal consistency. Furthermore, the second-order measurement models showed good model fit, whereas a competing first-order model did not adequately fit the data. Conclusion: The findings provide robust evidence for the reliability and validity of the scale in the context of the Democratic Republic of Congo, supporting its use in similar developing countries and culturally diverse settings
