Abstract text:
The National Survey on the Dynamics of Household Relationships (ENDIREH) is the primary source of information on the violence experienced by women in Mexico. The most recent data (2021) indicate that 39.9% of women have experienced at least one episode of violence. Due to its impact factor, the data are used representatively, and it is important to statistically analyze the instruments it comprises. The psychometric properties of the 2021 ENDIREH were tested in the sections associated with psychological and sociocultural variables, and a trend analysis was conducted for the five periods measured by the ENDIREH (2003, 2006, 2011, 2016, and 2021) for the distribution of household chores and women's decision-making regarding whether or not report intimate partner violence. The results of the exploratory factor analysis for the distribution of household chores showed a total explained variance of 56.226% and adequate internal consistency (α = .879), distributed in a single factor. For decision-making, the total variance was 65.775% with an alpha of .919, distributed in three dimensions. Upon obtaining the overall model fit, the RMSEA value was 0.095 (p = 1.00), indicating a poor fit, showing discrepancies between the theoretical model and the observed data. Regarding changes over time in the decision-making variables, the data show progress in education and labour force participation, and for the distribution of household chores, a significant decrease was found in activities performed only by women and those performed by both women and their partners. Overall, the statements consistently represent each dimension and serve as support for measuring the sociocultural variables surrounding violence against women in Mexico. Measures must continue to be implemented to ensure that women operate within their homes in an equitable environment and have the autonomy and freedom necessary to make decisions about their own lives and live free from violence.
