Research on both decent work (DW) and meaningful work (MFW) and their impact on individual need satisfaction and well-being, has often been conducted within a single country. However, cultural differences play an important part in people's values, expectations and perceptions of work, and cross-cultural work on the antecedents and outcomes of decent work and meaningful work is needed (Blustein et al., 2023). This paper focuses on measurement issues inherent in assessing MFW and DW across cultures. It is part of a larger project examining how DW and MFW affect the well-being of employees through the satisfaction of basic psychological needs at work and at home across four countries: the United States, Germany, Colombia, and South Africa.
