Abstract text:
The symposium "The future of Psychology through the lenses of those who will build it: challenges and opportunities" positions itself as a forward-looking platform to rethink the role of emerging psychologists in shaping the future of the discipline. In a rapidly transforming world-defined by technological disruption, complex societal challenges, and the growing need for interdisciplinary solutions-early-career researchers are not only adapting to change but are uniquely positioned to drive it.
This session will critically address the structural and ethical challenges that define contemporary psychological science, including navigating highly competitive academic pathways, securing resources for innovative and high-risk research, and responding responsibly to the integration of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. At the same time, the shift toward open, transparent, and accountable science is redefining research practices, demanding new competencies while creating opportunities to enhance credibility and societal trust. Increasing expectations for research to generate measurable social impact further challenge early-career psychologists to align their work with urgent global priorities.
Crucially, these challenges coexist with unprecedented opportunities. Advances in digital technologies are revolutionising data ecosystems, enabling scalable, real-time, and more inclusive research. Expanding global networks and digital infrastructures are fostering collaboration beyond geographical and disciplinary boundaries, accelerating the production of knowledge with real-world relevance. Psychology is also gaining visibility as a key driver in addressing major societal issues, opening pathways for transformative, interdisciplinary impact.
Bringing together speakers from Spain, Croatia, UK and Polonia, this symposium aims to activate a new generation of researchers as agents of innovation and change. Through dynamic dialogue, participants will identify actionable strategies to overcome systemic barriers, harness emerging tools, and amplify the societal impact of their work. By cultivating leadership, adaptability, and a global perspective, this session seeks to empower early-career psychologists to not only respond to the future of psychology-but to actively shape it.
