Healthcare assistants (HCA) are highly susceptible to burnout,
particularly during their early career. Despite this, limited research has
focused on identifying the situations that trigger negative emotional
responses in novice HCAs or the strategies they and their more
experienced colleagues use to regulate these emotions.
We will conduct eight focus group discussions involving 50 participants
collapsed into four target groups: apprentice HCAs attending their
internship, HCAs in their first five years of job after the diploma,
intercompany trainers involved with HCA vocational courses, and expert
HCAs with at least 10 years of experience (including people occupying
the role of "company tutors").
The contribution presents findings from a qualitative exploration of these
triggering scenarios and the emotion regulation strategies adopted by
both novice and experienced HCAs. The results present critical situations
that will inform the design of learning scenarios including 360°
immersive video (360°VR). 360°VR aims to recreate realistic
professional contexts, evoke authentic emotional responses, and enhance
emotion regulation skills.
