Abstract text:
Running for over 50 years, the COST Action program is the European Commission's oldest funding program. Unlike most grants, the focus of the COST Action grant is to create scientist-practitioner networks in a given topic area and both drive scientific excellence and societal impact. Yet, despite its clear utility for maximizing scientific impact and bridging the science-practice gap, COST Actions are sorely lacking in the fields of work and organizational psychology and human resource management (WOP/HRM). Case in point, COST Action LeverAge is the first Action led by WOP/HRM scholars in at least the last decade. Therefore, my aim in this presentation is to drum interest in and build knowledge of the COST Action program. I discuss how COST Actions are structured and the types of activities that are funded. I will provide examples and lessons that draw from my experience as the coordinator (i.e., "Action Chair") of COST Action LeverAge, including how we have organized and grown the Action network from a small pool of initial co-proposers to 200+ scientists and practitioners from over 50 countries and myriad disciplines.
