The value of undergraduate foundational psychology education has been questioned, particularly in nations where the majority of graduates do not obtain further education/training to acquire the professional psychology competences necessary for registration/licensure as a psychologist. We developed the International Competences for Undergraduate Psychology (ICUP) Model partly to address this issue, in that the Model focuses on how graduates can contribute meaningfully in the workplace, but also in personal and community contexts. Specifically, we address the value of foundational psychology undergraduate education from the perspectives of the major stakeholders: students, educators, employers, communities/society. We answer common questions from each of these groups, with reference to the ICUP competences, and the broader literature. For example: Students may ask: How can I use the ICUP competences to achieve goals in my personal, work, and community life? Educators may ask: How can I use the ICUP Model to better prepare my students for diverse careers? They may also raise specific queries regarding the Model, for example: Aren't some of the ICUP competences at a professional rather than foundational level? Employers may ask: What do psychology graduates with ICUP competences bring to the workplace that distinguishes them from other graduates? Community/societal groups may ask: How do the ICUP competences better prepare students to be good local and global citizens? In answering these questions, we make reference to specific competences, and provide examples of educational resources that demonstrate integration/implementation of the Model. Such guidance should facilitate educators supporting students to (a) be aware of the competences that they have acquired, (b) apply such competences to their personal and community lives, and (c) communicate such competences to potential employers. In essence, we assert that the integration/implementation of the ICUP Model should increase the perceived and actual value of undergraduate psychology education.
