Abstract text:
The relationships between the Dark Triad traits (Machiavellianism, Narcissism, and Psychopathy) and Emotional Intelligence (EI) have continued to attract considerable scholarly attention. Previous comprehensive works, including the meta-analysis by Michels and Schulze (2021) and the systematic review by Walker et al. (2021), synthesized the literature available up to that point, highlighting complex and sometimes inconsistent associations between these constructs and suggesting the need for further research. Since 2022, an increasing number of studies have introduced new theoretical perspectives and produced novel empirical results, expanding the understanding of how these dark personality traits interact with emotional intelligence. Given these developments, an updated and rigorous systematic review is warranted. The present contribution therefore aims to synthesize empirical studies about the relationships between the Dark Triad and Emotional Intelligence (published from 2022 onward) through a systematic review conducted according to the PRISMA standards. The review includes data retrieved from Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and APA PsycArticles databases, resulting in an initial pool of 1,396 records currently under analysis. By integrating the most recent findings, this systematic review seeks to shed light on how the Dark Triad traits and Emotional Intelligence are associated across different contexts and targets. The results are promising and useful to contribute to clarify previous inconsistencies, refine theoretical frameworks, and point to new directions for both future research and practical interventions.
