In the educational landscape, promoting student well-being extends beyond academic achievement to encompass holistic development, including the cultivation of grit, hope and resilience. We intend to explore strategies aimed at nurturing these vital psychological assets in students and, consequently, promoting their overall well-being in school settings. This research highlights the role of grit, hope and resilience in promoting well-being and their interrelationship with student well-being.
This research underscores the predictive role of grit, hope and resilience for well-being and highlights the significant implications of cultivating grit, hope and resilience for students' well-being and academic outcomes. The sample consists of 501 students aged 9 to 18 years (mean age 12.3 years, SD=1.51), 251 from urban areas, 249 from rural areas, 215 boys, 285 girls). The instruments used were Grit Scale (Duckworth), (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.949), CYRM-R (Ungar) (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.956), Sterling Childrens Wellbeing Scale (Cronbach's Alpha =0.951), Childrens Hope Scale (Snyder, 1997) (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.930). Analyses were carried out using SPSS 27.
The findings indicate high correlations between variables and a strong explanation of wellbeing in terms of students' grit, hope and resilience. Based on the findings of the empirical study, we try to identify a number of evidence-based strategies for promoting grit, hope and resilience in students. These strategies include both individual-level interventions, such as goal-setting exercises, growth mindset interventions, and mindfulness practices, and environmental factors, such as supportive teacher-student relationships, a culture of high expectations, and opportunities for meaningful engagement and autonomy.
In conclusion, the empirical evidence presented highlights the importance of intentional efforts to foster grit, hope, and resilience in students within the school context. By implementing evidence-based strategies aimed at cultivating these psychological assets, educators can play a pivotal role in promoting student well-being and creating supportive learning environments conducive to academic and personal growth.
