The Malaysian Psychological Association (PSIMA) is spearheading a national movement to establish the Malaysian Psychology Act, a landmark effort to formalize and regulate the practice of psychology in Malaysia. The Act seeks to ensure public safety, uphold professional ethics, and strengthen national standards for registration, accreditation, and practice. Importantly, it also emphasizes safeguarding society from pseudo psychology and unqualified practices that may harm individuals and communities. This presentation outlines Malaysia's consultative, multi-sectoral process uniting academia, government agencies, and professional bodies to develop the legislative and governance framework. It further highlights PSIMA's evolving role as a regulatory and capacity-building authority. Malaysia's experience demonstrates how a developing nation can foster inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and scientific integrity while aligning with ASEAN and global psychological standards to build a resilient and trusted profession.
