Abstract text:
Environmental Psychology has a long tradition of investigating the interplay between humans and natural as well as built environments. Here I will selectively review recent trends in environmental psychology to highlight the important role applied psychology can play for planetary health drawing on perspectives related to research as well as the science-policy interface. I will illustrate with three examples related to climate change activism, emerging pollutants and nature and health. First, I will highlight work investigating barriers and facilitators of climate activism. Second, I will briefly review findings on risk perception and policy support surrounding microplastics and so-called forever chemicals. Finally, I will turn to the benefits of nature in the context of nature-based therapies. These three examples serve to highlight diverse aspects of the growing area of environmental psychology for the benefit of humans and the natural environment.
