Abstract text:
Despite the rapid advancement of health psychology research, a persistent gap remains between scientific evidence and its application in everyday health practice. The Practical Health Psychology (PHP) blog, affiliated with the European Health Psychology Society, was created to address this translational challenge. It aims to make cutting-edge health psychology research accessible, actionable, and relevant for practitioners, policymakers, public health professionals, and intervention designers across the world.
This presentation will introduce the PHP initiative, its international scope, and its editorial approach to knowledge translation. By distilling peer-reviewed research into concise, practice-oriented blog posts written by leading health psychology researchers, PHP enhances the uptake of psychological science in applied settings. The blog is available in 30 languages and disseminated across 45 countries by a network of 65 National Editors, reflecting its commitment to equity, accessibility, and global dissemination.
A recent evaluation demonstrated that PHP is accessed by over 200,000 readers worldwide, highlighting the need for practical and applied resources that are contextually relevant and available in local languages. We also published a free eBook, which has been downloaded over 180,000 times across various language options, further demonstrating the demand for high-quality resources for healthcare professionals.
We will discuss how PHP contributes to the broader goals of health psychology, empowering individuals, informing interventions, and supporting evidence-based health promotion. Challenges in bridging research and practice will also be explored, along with strategies to foster collaboration between researchers and practitioners. Finally, the role of platforms like PHP in the future of health psychology will be considered, particularly in terms of strengthening international networks and increasing the societal impact of psychological science.
