Abstract text:
The uncertainty of the international context and the difficulties encountered by populations in different countries are giving rise to new health issues and psychological distress. The conflict in Ukraine, the COVID pandemic, and more broadly the context in which populations live on a daily basis are likely to make the most vulnerable even more exposed to the expression of various disorders. Among the consequences observed are a 63% increase in suicide attempts among 11-14 year olds and a 42% increase among 15-19 year olds, as well as a 37% increase in November 2024 in the number of psychiatric consultations among children under 18. Anxiety and mood disorders, as well as suicidal thoughts, are on the rise. These are just examples of the situation in France. Other populations are also heavily impacted, including certain professions and age groups, with differences between men and women. Of the approximately 85,000 people hospitalised at least once in connection with self-harm in 2022, 64% are women. How can we understand these observations? Above all, how can we address these different issues? A three-stage approach seems essential: first, prevention; second, treatment; and finally, evaluation of the effectiveness of the measures put in place.
Certain approaches in the field of positive psychology can contribute significantly to this timeframe, both through a strengths-based approach and a 'positive psychotherapy' approach. However, rather than viewing it as a 'revolution', it should be seen as part of a process of integration into the existing system. This potential contribution of positive psychology will be discussed during this symposium.
