The presentation notes that rising global political polarization mainly stems from the insufficient or improper use of psychological knowledge and tools for constructive progress. The negative role of conservatism refers to extant incontrovertible evidence in the complacent use of psychology in colonialism, neo-colonialism, racism, state-sponsored terrorism, and ethno-religious bigotry, among others. The paper states that advances in psychology have not improved their practical role in reducing harmful political practices, and it questions the core principles of diplomacy, cooperation, and mutuality in international relations. The contradictions of advocates for peace prosecuting war, and apostles of democracy decrying self-determination continue to frustrate efforts to nurture global peace, promote sustainable development, and enforce human rights. While psychology provides tools to reverse these trends and tendencies, it is doubtful if its various coalition entities are morally neutral or dare to lead the world out of the clutches of prejudice, hatred, and diminution. A paradigm shift is suggested to realign efforts towards achieving global peace. The Pan African Psychology Union advocates for the constructive use of psychology to improve the human condition, resolve fractured relationships, and harness resources for sustainable growth and development in every human society for justice and equity.
