Abstract text:
Amid rapid changes and challenges at the global level, the National psychological organizations can play a vital role in reducing the severity of crises and promoting human welfare. They can address discord, inequality, and trauma linked to global tensions through research, advocacy, and collaboration with governments and international bodies. Upholding scientific integrity and neutrality, these organizations can bridge trust across cultural and political divides, fostering dialogue, reducing conflict, and advancing collective well being of humanity. In my presentation, I highlight how HIMPSI, Indonesia's professional psychology association, has incorporated this responsibility with vision and pragmatism to address national needs while engaging constructively in global dialogue.
Nationally, HIMPSI comes up with effective mental health initiatives during pandemics such as COVID 19, supports leadership selection across institutions, conducts psychological assessments for political candidates, and contributes to recruitment processes for the police, scholarship programs, and migrant worker placements. It has also partnered with over 100 psychology faculties and collaborated with the government and civil society to protect children and women. These efforts reflect psychology's role in strengthening governance and reducing social tensions.
Globally, HIMPSI is an active member of IUPsyS, APPA, ARUPS, GPA, and BRICS+ Psychology. Its participation reflects Indonesia's diplomatic stance of neutrality and harmony, while reinforcing psychology's role as a bridge across divides. Upholding academic freedom and scientific integrity, HIMPSI emphasizes collegial collaboration and mutual respect. In doing so, it contributes to reducing conflicts and advancing psychology as a discipline that supports both national resilience and global cooperation.
