The Global Learning Leadership Institute (LLI) was founded in 2020 during the Covid pandemic and acknowledges the importance of leadership especially in challenging and uncertain times. Based on the psychological principles of inclusive leadership, the LLI is a mentoring programme with a difference. It is truly cross-cultural at its core, and the program enables emerging leaders to add value in their local context whilst gaining an appreciation of the broader global environment. The goal of LLI is to provide a framework through which emerging leaders can fulfil their potential as leaders in psychology. The aim is to enable, inspire, and motivate them and to provide opportunities to enhance their capabilities as leaders. To date, 108 emerging leaders have graduated, with a further 40 participants in the 2025-2026 cohort. At its heart is the relationship between the mentor and the emerging leader. The experience provides growth in a two-way context, with mentors gaining from the interactions as well as the emerging leaders themselves. The focus is on cross-cultural research and the application of psychological science in real world contexts. Each emerging leader puts the principles into practice through their capstone projects, and each project is directly linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3,10 or 13. They can get involved within the wider GPA environment and learn from experts in the field as well as fellow colleagues from different countries from the global south and north. This session will explore the added value for psychology of the LLI approach and, through the lens of a mentee, will review the lived experience and learning from the LLI. The session will highlight the added value of the programme and its wider potential implications for cross cultural psychological research and practice.
