The Financial Education Foundation, established in 2014 by the Italian Banking Association, has been playing a fundamental role for 10 years in informing and raising awareness among young generations about the management of financial resources, with the aim of promoting a more responsible and conscious financial culture. This activity is not limited to the mere transmission of economic knowledge but intertwines with the citizenship skills that are now indispensable, as well as psychological principles concerning learning and the cognitive and behavioral development of individuals. Among these, we can highlight:
• The transmission of information "close" to students' daily experiences, such as the concepts of saving, managing expenses, and financial planning, according to a progressive approach based on the students' age.
• The connection between money management and the perspectives of autonomy and empowerment.
• The ability to solve practical problems and make well-considered decisions in economic contexts, which are essential skills in everyday life.
• The development of emotional awareness regarding one's inclinations and reactions towards money.
• The use of active learning techniques such as practical simulations, role-playing, or real-life stories.
The Foundation, which played a pioneering role prior to the introduction of financial education in civic education, which became law in Italy in 2024, also continually innovates its methods of dissemination in schools. Among the most recent initiatives, we recall the development of interdisciplinary teaching units linked to traditional curriculum subjects and the establishment of a network of young peer educators who bring the topic of financial education closer to thousands of children, boys, and girls in many Italian schools
