Abstract text:
The integration of artificial intelligence into psychology is reshaping both research and clinical practice. This presentation will offer perspectives from a scholar-practitioner whose work bridges academic research and applied therapeutic settings. With a research background in mixed reality and augmented therapy, combined with ongoing clinical practice, this contribution highlights the dual opportunities and challenges of bringing AI into psychology. On the research side, AI enables new approaches to study design, data analysis, and the development of innovative therapeutic tools, yet also raises questions about validity, generalizability, and the role of human judgment in scientific inquiry. In the clinical realm, AI-driven technologies intersect with therapeutic practice in ways that can augment treatment, enhance accessibility, and support individualized care, but also demand careful attention to ethics, trust, and the preservation of the therapeutic relationship. The presentation will examine issues such as the transparency of AI systems, potential bias in training data, and the responsibility of psychologists to evaluate emerging technologies with scientific rigor and ethical sensitivity. Special emphasis will be placed on how AI tools can both enrich and complicate mixed reality and augmented therapy methods, providing new modes of engagement for clients while also introducing questions of autonomy, competence, and oversight. Attendees will gain an integrated understanding of how AI simultaneously advances psychological research and reshapes clinical practice, as well as strategies for responsibly adopting these technologies to ensure that innovation aligns with professional values and client well-being.
