Introduction
Frustration is an inherent aspect of the entrepreneurial journey, frequently stemming from uncertainty, setbacks, and the demanding nature of venture creation. Traditionally, frustration is regarded as a negative emotional state closely linked to stress and, over time, associated with detrimental effects on both physical and mental health. However, entrepreneurs who develop effective coping mechanisms can transform this arousal into creativity, motivation, and innovation.
Aim
This study explores the pivotal role of frustration in entrepreneurship, moving beyond its mere mitigation to investigate how it can serve as a catalyst for problem-solving and business growth. Specifically, we aim to identify key frustration triggers encountered by entrepreneurs and analyze their responses to these challenges. Furthermore, we examine the role of individual differences, including personality traits and psychological factors, in shaping their experiences and coping mechanisms. By elucidating these variations, we seek to develop tailored strategies that enable entrepreneurs to reframe obstacles as opportunities, thereby fostering resilience, enhancing attentional focus, and sustaining motivation.
Method
To capture frustration triggers and responses in real-world entrepreneurial settings, we employ the Experience Sampling Method (ESM), which enables real-time assessment of frustration dynamics and their impact on entrepreneurial behavior. This methodological approach allows us to analyze frustration as it unfolds within daily business activities, providing valuable insights into its temporal and situational variability. By integrating psychological frameworks with real-time data collection, this study aims to generate actionable strategies that empower entrepreneurs to harness frustration as a driver of innovation and long-term success.
