The American Psychological Association (APA) has been in the process of revising its Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (also known as the APA Ethics Code) since 2018. A first draft of the revised code was released for public consultation in December 2024, which yielded more than 2,650 comments from a broad range of contributors, including psychologists, graduate students, professional organizations, and members of the public. A new draft is anticipated to be available for public comment in early 2026. A final version of the revised Code will be submitted to the APA Council of Representatives for adoption upon the completion of the work. The purpose of this presentation is to reflect on the newly revised version of the APA Ethics Code from a global perspective, using the Universal Declaration of Ethical Principles for Psychologists (2008) as a reference. Comments will focus on: (a) the structure of the Code; (b) the ethical principles to be considered and balanced in ethical decision making; (c) the ethical standards defining the rules of conduct to adhere to; and (d) the potential of the Code to become an effective educational and training tool to learn to think ethically and develop global thinking about ethics. Let it be noted that the Universal Declaration of Ethical Principles for Psychologists describes ethical principles that are based on shared human values. It was developed under the auspices of the International Union of Psychological Science and the International Association of Applied Psychology and unanimously adopted by both organizations in 2008.
