Abstract text:
Climate change represents a significant global threat. Extreme weather events are increasing in frequency and intensity, varying from heat waves to wildfires, floods, and hurricanes. One thing these events have in common is that they all have significant health and mental health consequences. This presentation will describe the individual and community mental health and social impacts of climate change. It will also describe how these effects differ across people and nations. Finally, we will consider what psychologists can do to participate in preparing for, responding to, and mitigating the needs emerging from climate change.
