Abstract text:
The concept of energy citizenship is raising greater attention among researchers. However, even if some definitions of the concept have been provided, until now there is no consensus over the definition and operationalization of energy citizenship. In this study, we propose the Energy Citizenship scale (ECs), a self-report scale based on a multidimensional operational definition of energy citizenship and explore the factor structure of its subscales. A survey has been shared with N=679 respondents' resident in the U.K. stratified for gender and recruited with Prolific. The ECs was developed to include the following main dimensions: emotions, attitudes, beliefs, perceived behavioral control, behaviors, behavioral intentions, identity, norms, engagement, perceived political and institutional management of energy issues in the form of trust in institutions, perceived energy democracy and perceived justice in achieving energy transition. Preliminary statistical analyses revealed satisfactory structures for each subscale. Internal consistency indexes were also satisfactory for the subscales except the one on sustainable energy behaviors of the behavioral dimension. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed
