Emotion regulation is fundamental for maintaining psychological well-being and building healthy interpersonal relationships. Emotion regulation strategies are generally divided into intrapersonal and interpersonal categories. However, comprehensive measurement instruments that assess both dimensions simultaneously are scarce, which often results in neglecting the social context of emotion regulation. To address this gap, the Emotion Regulation Strategy Scale (ERSS) was developed to evaluate nine distinct strategies used at both intrapersonal and interpersonal levels. The current study aimed to examine the psychometric properties, specifically the validity and reliability, of the ERSS within a Turkish sample. The ERSS was first translated into Turkish using a forward-backward translation procedure, ensuring conceptual and cultural equivalence through expert evaluations. Cognitive interviews were subsequently conducted to refine linguistic clarity and cultural appropriateness. The psychometric evaluation involved adult participants who completed the finalized Turkish version. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted to verify the original nine-factor structure of the scale. Reliability was assessed by calculating internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha coefficients) and test-retest reliability. Additionally, convergent validity was examined through correlations with conceptually similar constructs. Preliminary analyses indicated that the Turkish ERSS reliably assesses both individual and interpersonal dimensions of emotion regulation. CFA supported the original factor structure of the scale. Cronbach's alpha coefficients indicated strong internal consistency across subscales. Convergent validity analyses revealed meaningful and expected relationships between ERSS subscales and related constructs, providing further support for the validity of the instrument. The Turkish version of the ERSS offers a robust tool for evaluating emotion regulation strategies in both research and clinical settings, addressing individual and social regulatory processes comprehensively.
