2486 - CHARACTER STRENGTH AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ON HUMAN FLOURISHING AMONG EMERGING ADULTS

Abstract text:
The main aim of this study is it investigate the Influence of character strength and emotional
intelligence on human flourishing among emerging adults in Akoka, Lagos, it also evaluate the
degree to which character strength and emotional intelligence can predict human flourishing
among emerging adults in Akoka, Lagos. 387 participants were used for this study and were administered
test instruments, using Character Strengths Rating Form (CSRF),
Schutte Emotional Intelligent Scale (SEIS) and Flourishing
Scale. The result of the study revealed that Character strength
independently predicts human flourishing given the Beta and P value scores to be (b = .275, P
<.001), also, emotional intelligence independently predict human flourishing given the Beta and
P value scores to be (b = .259, P <.001), Furthermore, Character strength and emotional
intelligence are jointly responsible for 23.4% variance in human flourishing (R square =.234).
which implies that Character strength and emotional intelligence jointly explained 23.4% human
flourishing of the participants. Secondly, result of the study revealed there was a significant
positive relationship between character strength of respondents (r = .646, P<.001) and emotional
intelligence. Also, a significant positive relationship was observed between human flourishing of
respondents (r = .436, P>.05) and emotional intelligence as well as between human flourishing
of respondents (r = .442, P>.05) and character strength. The study
therefore concludes by suggesting that positive character strength, such as resilience, empathy,
and integrity, significantly contribute to an individual overall well-being and flourishing.
Furthermore, emotional intelligence serves as a pivotal factor, enhancing the ability of these
young adults in navigating social complexities, manage stress, and build meaningful relationships
