The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition (DSM-5) Section III Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD; APA, 2013) represents an innovative system for simultaneous psychiatric classification and psychological assessment of personality disorders. Declared by the APA as an Alternative Model, the AMPD legitimately complements the DSM-5 Section II PD diagnoses and allows for formal coding Using this model in the diagnosis of psychological incapacity for nullity of marriage, the researcher-clinician, found this model relevant in pointing out the pathological traits of either of the plaintiff or the defendant in carrying out marital obligations as stipulated in the Family Code of the Philippines. The researcher-clinician utilized cross-case analysis in determining the psychological profiles of the 10 sample cases that were already presented in the Philippine courts through the use of the DSM-5 "Other Specified Personality Disorder (301.89). Eight of the profiles, either plaintiff or defendant have diagnosis of Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) with pathological traits of manipulativeness, callousness, deceitfulness, irresponsibility, and hostility. Two of the defendants had diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) with pathological traits of emotional lability, separation anxiety, impulsivity, and hostility. Three of the plaintiffs were diagnosed having Personality Disorder - Trait Specified with pathological traits such as negative affectivity, antagonism, and disinhibition. Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder was given to a plaintiff with pathological traits of rigid perfectionism, intimacy avoidance, and disinhibition. Lastly, a Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) was given to a defendant with pathological traits of grandiosity and attention-seeking. In terms of the levels of personality functioning of the cases pointed out, majority have marked impairment in terms of self-direction, empathy and intimacy with common feature of impairment in identity for cases with ASPD.
