Based on social cognitive career theory (SCCT) and theory of panned behavior, this ongoing study aim to explore the career self-management model, i.e. the role of self-efficacy beliefs, career adaptability, and goal expectations in adaptive behaviors i.e. career goals clarity, learning, career exploration, and career planning. Meaning of work (work orientations) will be also included in the model.
As was pointed out, career management model as proposed in the SCCT, can help to investigate/explain engagement in career adaptive behaviors by inclusion of SCCT constructs, as well as social support and personality traits, particularly consciousness. Furthermore, exploration of a model of career adaptive behaviors may contribute to development or strengthening of career decision making skills, job search skills and skills for successful/optimal career transitions
The conducted pilot study demonstrated good internal consistency of the administered measures with Cronbach alpha coefficients varying from α=.73 to α=.97. Preliminary analyses showed patterns of correlation among study variables as expected.
The mentioned model will be analyzed using equation modeling and results will be discussed in the light of SCCT and theory of planned behavior. Implications in the field of career guidance and career counseling, as well as contribution towards sustainable career paths will be discussed, too.
