In both Brazilian and international contexts, the interdisciplinary field of Career Guidance and Counseling has been increasingly challenged by social transformations that are reshaping the world of work and careers—indeed, giving rise to multiple "worlds of work." The incorporation of new epistemes, the contextualization of theory and practice, and the development of social technologies to address precarization, flexibilization, and individualization present both opportunities and challenges for researchers and practitioners.Grounded in the contributions of Social Constructionism, this presentation highlights the work of a Brazilian research group based at the Laboratory for Work and Career Guidance Studies at the University of São Paulo, under the coordination of Professor Marcelo Afonso Ribeiro.
Established in late 2021, the group currently comprises six researchers—all psychologists holding master's or doctoral degrees—who aim to advance the understanding of socioconstructionist career counseling through the systematization of its epistemological, theoretical, and technical foundations, along with guidelines and strategies for intervention and process evaluation. Drawing on counseling practices, the group produced a Brazilian adaptation of the LAQuA (Life Adaptability Qualitative Assessment). Following empirical research, analysis, and contextualization, the instrument was revised and renamed AQuARRS (Quali-Quanti Assessment of Adaptability, Reflexivity, and Social Repositioning), with the purpose of contributing to the evaluation of interventions in Career Guidance and Counseling. The group's scholarly contributions underscore the potential of socioconstructionism as both a theoretical and practical framework, offering guidelines for the development of a critical and pluralistic and advancing an agenda to Career Guidance and Counseling committed to the inclusion of all individuals.
