Abstract text:
The interaction between workers and the surrounding environment such as technological and machine aspects, tasks, psychology, physiology and psychosocial, as well as occupational safety and health characteristics is known as the field of ergonomics. Previous studies have found that ergonomic work systems are poorly practiced in various sectors. This situation contributes to the increase in employee behavior problems with the existence of occupational problems such as accidents at work, health problems and occupational diseases, job stress, absenteeism and ultimately affects the development and achievement of employee performance. This, in turn, would ultimately enhance workplace performance. A systematic preliminary review through the publication of previous articles in the field was conducted between Malaysia and Indonesia to identify the level of awareness and implementation of ergonomic work systems that can contribute to employee performance. Supported by empirical data which involved 308 respondents from both countries, initial results found that there is still a lack of awareness regarding the importance of ergonomic aspects in both countries. There is a positive relationship that shows ergonomic elements as a contributor to employee performance achievement. The findings imply that higher management of organizations, safety committees and employees themselves should all collaborate to enhance ergonomics aspect at the workplace. The amount of work given to the workers does have a significant impact towards the performance at work. In other words, the determined that changes related to applying and upholding aspects of performance at work, such as altering work conditions and the working environment, implementing ergonomics aspects and inculcating a culture of safety will help to enhance the performance of workers.
