Abstract text:
The present research aims to analyze the relationship between personality traits, emotional intelligence, and political orientation in Indian society with a particular emphasis on authoritarian tendencies as assessed by the Very Short Authoritarianism (VSA) scale. Because determinants of political ideals in the Indian context are complex and include ethnicity, region, and religion, the scope of concern for the psychological factors that inform such political propensities cannot be overstated. Method: The research sample consists of 231 young adults between the ages of 18 to 30 from various parts of India were recruited to participate in the study. Standardized tools like Big Five Inventory - 10 (BFI-10), Very Short Authoritarianism (VSA) scale. and Trait emotional intelligence Questionnaire - Short Form (T emotional intelligence Que-SF). The data will be analyzed using regression analysis to explore how personality traits and EI predict political ideology, with moderation analysis to explore the moderating role of emotional intelligence. Results: Regression analysis showed that conscientiousness (t = 16.77, p < 0.001), neuroticism (t = 15.05, p < 0.001) and agreeableness (t = -13.43, p < 0.001) significantly predicted authoritarian tendencies. A significant interaction between EI and Openness to experience indicated that indicated that EI moderated the relationship, with the effect of openness on political orientation being weaker at higher levels of EI. Future Implications: This study could help understand the various psychological factors involved in shaping political ideologies in India. The research may also have implications for psychological interventions aiming to promote political harmony and fostering a balanced view.
