Martial arts emphasize the harmonious integration of mind and body, with mindfulness serving as a fundamental component for optimal performance. Competition anxiety represents a significant challenge for martial artists, potentially disrupting the cognitive and emotional balance essential for technical execution. While mindfulness practices are theoretically linked to anxiety reduction, empirical evidence examining this relationship among Southeast Asian martial artists remains limited. This predictive study examined whether cognitive and affective mindfulness dimensions directly influence competition anxiety levels among Filipino martial artists who participated in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games, aiming to establish evidence-based foundations for psychological training interventions. A quantitative predictive design was employed with 59 Filipino martial artists representing seven different combat sports disciplines. Participants completed validated measures assessing cognitive and affective mindfulness dimensions and competition anxiety levels. Pearson correlation analysis and regression modeling were conducted to examine relationships and predictive capabilities between variables.Analysis revealed a significant negative relationship between mindfulness and competition anxiety (r = -0.492, p < .001), with mindfulness explaining 24.2% of the variance in competition anxiety scores (R² = 0.242). Regression analysis demonstrated that mindfulness significantly predicted competition anxiety levels (β = -0.382, t = -4.27, p < .001), indicating that higher mindfulness scores corresponded with lower competition anxiety among participants. The findings provide empirical support for mindfulness as a significant predictor of reduced competition anxiety in martial arts contexts. These results highlight the importance of integrating mindfulness-based interventions into training programs for Filipino martial artists to enhance performance efficiency and anxiety management. The evidence supports developing systematic mindfulness protocols that could benefit both competitive performance and athlete well-being across combat sports disciplines.
