Introduction: In modern organizations, the shift from rigid, function-based hierarchies to more flexible, team-oriented structures has become increasingly important. In this context, the connection between teamwork and group identity is evident in both measurable results, such as productivity and profit, and in intangible feelings, including commitment, satisfaction, and motivation. However, studying teamwork remains crucial because many organizational tasks today go beyond what a single person can accomplish.
Purpose: Based on the Teamwork Efficacy Model, this study analyzed the relationship between teamwork readiness and group identification among employees from an industry organization, considering their sociodemographic characteristics.
Method: The study includes 188 professionals (52 females, 28.1%; 125 males, 67.6%), with ages ranging from 19 to 67 years old (M = 38; SD = 10.39) and years of professional experience ranging from 0 to 49 years (M = 10.95; SD = 11.31). The evaluation protocol included a Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Teamwork Readiness Questionnaire, and the Group Identification Measure. Cluster analysis using the K-means method was employed to identify profiles of participants' perceptions of teamwork readiness in their professional activities.
Results: The findings showed that: (a) teamwork readiness levels are high; (b) the group with higher teamwork readiness reported greater group identification than the group with lower teamwork readiness; and (c) differences in teamwork readiness within the profiles do not vary based on participants' sociodemographic variables. In summary, higher teamwork readiness is associated with greater group identification, and this pattern remains consistent across various sociodemographic factors.
Conclusions: Teams benefit from having a clear understanding of why they work together (structure), increased motivation to collaborate (processes), and pride in the potential positive results of their teamwork (products) because this fosters a greater sense of social identification with their teams. Enhancing teamwork can foster a more positive experience for individuals, benefiting their professional and personal growth.
