Abstract text:
Research suggests that 8.5% of children in the United States, and 15% worldwide have a neurodevelopmental disorder (NDD) (Gidziela et al., 2023; Yang et al., 2022). NDDs include autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), intellectual disorder (ID), communication disorders, learning disabilities (LD), and motor disorders (APA, 2015). These disorders persist across the lifespan yet, there is limited research on the developmental trajectory after children leave K-12 education. Transition services are aimed at assisting the student and family to continue to reach goals in post-secondary education. The goals of this presentation will be to illustrate a multidisciplinary perspective on transition services, highlight current literature and recommendations on collaboration, and inform the audience on techniques for successful transition.
