Introduction : Post partum depression (PPD) is a prevalent and serious mental health issue affecting the women worldwide. While PPD is widely recognized, there remains a need to improve knowledge and attitudes towards this condition among women. The main aim of the study is to assess whether the training program leads to improved knowledge and attitudes towards PPD among women.
Methodology: Multi stage sampling was used, where four wards of Uzhamalaykkal Grama Panchayat is selected randomly. All together there was 65 respondents. After pre-test, intervention program was conducted. After intervention post-test was also conducted.
Findings: A significant portion of the participants demonstrated varying levels of knowledge regarding postpartum depression in the pre-test. Specifically, 32.3% exhibited a "good level of knowledge," 50.8% showed a "moderate level of knowledge," while 16.9% had a "poor knowledge" regarding this condition, while in the post test study, 100% had good level of knowledge on postpartum depression as well as 100% of respondents developed a positive attitude towards post partum depression. In case of attitude of respondents during pre test, 72.3% had a positive attitude and15.4% had only a moderate level of positive attitude towards postpartum depression considering the pre-test, but in post test it has changed and 100% respondents have positive attitude towards PPD. "Findings also show that there is a strong association between knowledge levels and attitudes towards PPD". This highlights the importance of increasing knowledge as a means to promote positive attitudes and reduce stigma. We also assessed that if there is any significance between the economic class, education,social groups, and age.
Conclusion: In conclusion, the present study demonstrates the effectiveness of a training program in improving knowledge and attitudes towards postpartum depression (PPD) among women. It is recommended to include partners and family members in the education process.
