Psychological immunity refers to those mental process and personal resources that protect an individual's mental well-being from stress, trauma, and other negative life events. A strong body of research have indicated that purpose in life of an individual is significantly related with psychological immunity. Research also shows that psychological well-being is significantly related with Purpose in life. However, the exact mechanism underlying this relationship is yet to be explored. The present paper is an attempt to understand the relationship between parent child relationship, psychological immunity, purpose in life among Indian emerging adults and to understand the ways in which parent-child relationship shows a significant impact on psychological immunity and purpose in life.
A total 200 emerging adults (100 Male and 100 Female) between the age range of 18 to 25 years were administered questionnaires assessing Parent child relationship, psychological immunity and purpose in life. Results revealed a significant relationship between parent child relationship, psychological immunity and purpose in life. It was also observed that parent-child relationship significantly moderates the relationship between psychological immunity and purpose in life. A significant interaction of gender was also observed in these relationships. These results are important as they help us to understand how parent child relationship impact psychological immunity and purpose in life of emerging adults and advocates of effective parenting training/counselling for first time parents.
