The present study aims to explore how individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds who experienced parentification in childhood perceive these experiences and to examine how such early parentification behaviors influence the dynamics of their romantic relationships in adulthood. In the present study, 10 adults over the age of 18 who were currently involved in a romantic relationship and had experienced parentification during childhood were included. To explore participants' perceptions of childhood parentification, data were collected using the interview method, a qualitative research approach. Semi-structured interviews, designed by the researcher, were conducted, and—with participants' informed consent—audio recordings were obtained. Prior to the interviews, participants' levels of parentification were assessed with The Parentification Inventory (Köyden & Uluç, 2018). Furthermore, participants' socio-demographic characteristics (e.g., age, gender, education status, level of income, sibling status, type of relationship, and relationship duration) were gathered through a Demographic Information Form prepared by the researcher. The findings indicated that adults' experiences of parentification in childhood had a negative impact on their later romantic relationships. In particular, the loss or absence of the father was found to play a significant role in shaping the experience of parentification during childhood.
