Abstract text:
The aim of this research is to understand and explore in depth parents' perceptions of the quality of their children's relationships with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) with typical siblings, as well as their efforts in managing these relationships. This research involved six parent participants who had at least one biological child diagnosed with ASD and at least one biological child with typical development in Indonesia. Using a qualitative methodology approach, data was collected through semi-structured interviews lasting 60-90 minutes, exploring participants' personal experiences and perspectives regarding the daily interactions of typical children with their autistic siblings. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the interview findings, revealing five main themes: post-diagnosis experiences, quality of sibling relationships, impact of ASD towards siblings, parental support for siblings, and parental hopes for the future. The results of this study reveal clinical implications that assert the importance of interventions for children with ASD that involve siblings, as well as the availability of psychological support for siblings and parents of children with ASD.
